Itinerary

The guided visit of the Palace consists of two sections: the Royal Apartments and the Royal Gardens.

From Caserta to Naples the journey lasts about 25 minutes along a direct road that was committed by King Charles himself to connect the city Centre of Naples to the main entrance of Caserta Royal Palace. Once at the Palace, you will discover that the king’s “vision” of a straight road continues through the entrance of the palace into the garden up to the main cascade for 2 more miles!

The Museum of the Royal Palace takes part in the upper Noble Floor designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for the Royal Family. On the upper vestibule in front of the Grand Staircase you will find the Palatine Chapel which reminds strongly of the Chapel in Versailles. Going through the Anterooms of the Halberdiers, the Bodyguards, and Alexander you find two main Apartments: the “New Apartment” or “Apartment of the Ottocento” completed in the 19th century and the “Old Apartment or “Apartment of the Settecento” with its 18th-century decoration, meant for Prince Royal. The Old Apartment was the only one ever inhabited by the Bourbons. There you can see refined Rococo-style decorations and furniture, sumptuous San Leucio silk wallpapers, and polychrome chandeliers of the Venetian Murano glasswork. After the visit to the interiors of the Palace, you can relax and stroll around the park.

A continuous public bus service will bring you along the park to the main cascade.

An alternative activity can be the electric-assisted bicycles – which can be hired on the spot. Biking may allow more pictures-stop on the way up to the main waterfall.

A spectacular “waterway” with fountains enriched with mythological sculptures and water games will bring you back to the life of the Royal Court. The route ends with the waterfall overtopping the Fountain of Diana and Actaeon.

  • Next to the waterfall do not miss the English Garden, ordered by Queen Maria Carolina of Hapsburg, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, and designed by Luigi Vanvitelli with the support of the botanist Andrew Graefer. This place is only open to a walking route. Lose the sense of time by looking at grasslands, waterways, picturesque ponds, and hidden temples. Simply enjoy this unique place where natural and artificial melts down in a very romantic dream.
