Practical info

Our expert English speaking driver will welcome you at the cruise ship dock/gangway at the prearranged time. The journey from the port of Civitavecchia to the centre of Rome takes 90 minutes. During the passage through the marvellous Etruscan countryside you have the chance to share your interests and desires with the driver. We can fashion the most ideal day for you, doing our best to honour all your requests.

Ancient Rome

Once in Rome, our first stop will be at the Coliseum. This is also the meeting point with your private Guide. It’s the largest amphitheatre of the Roman Empire. Our visit to the Colosseo will help you to understand the structure, the materials used for the building and the on goings of a show in this unique ancient stadium. You will be able to rebuild the Monument in your mind’s eye and to understand the meaning of the “ludi” (“games”) in the Ancient Roman Culture. From the top of the Colosseum enjoy the view of the famous Constantine’s Arch.

Baroque Rome

Afterwards we will drive to the incredible Piazza Venezia. Dominating the square there is the impressive white marble Victor Emanuel’s Monument, one of the symbols of Rome, better known with the name of “Wedding cake”. From Piazza Venezia you can access, through the Cordonata, a flat staircase designed by Michelangelo, to the Capitoline Hill, the most beautiful of the Seven Hills of Rome. Once at the top you are in Piazza del Campidoglio. It’s the City Hall square of today. Projected by Michelangelo, the square offers an amazing view of the entire ancient Roman Forum. It was the centre of the economical, political, and social ancient Rome life. Your guide will take you from Rome’s primitive origins to the magnificent Imperial monuments standing on it. Very few sites are as simultaneously educational and breathtaking. The exploration continues with a driving across the city in order to visit the majestic Pantheon and a short walking tour to Navona Square which corresponds to the real leaving room of Rome.

Lunch Time

After lunch, that you can enjoy according to your tastes in a picturesque Cafeteria or in a typical Roman “trattoria” (small homemade food restaurant), we will take a driving tour across the city to explore the Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter’s Basilica and Square.

Vatican City

In the Vatican Museums, which were once Papal Palaces, your Guide will comment about the extraordinary treasures collected by the Popes in there housed and the masterpieces of the greatest Italian artists who worked in, such as Perugino, Raphael and Michelangelo. Admire amazing ancient Greek and Roman sculpture collections made of colossal statues like the Laocoon group, the Apollo del Belvedere and the Venus of Cnidos, busts of the Roman emperors and refined ancient mosaics showing mythological subjects. Moving on to the splendidly decorated Raphael’s rooms, we reach the Sistine Chapel where you will be astonished by the marvellous frescoes made by Michelangelo like The Last Judgment and the Adam’s Creation.
Finally we will emerge in the impressive Saint Peter’s Square. Here we feel the sensation to be warmly embraced by its colonnade, evidence of the architectural genius of G.L. Bernini. Then we take a deep breath before entering Saint Peter’s Basilica, the largest church in the world. Lost in such magnificence, our eyes will be captured by one of the most beautiful works that the human mind could ever conceive: Michelangelo’s Pietà.
After such an exciting and interesting day you will enjoy a relaxing ride back to the pier.

Giuseppe taylor made the tour to see the things I specifically wanted to see in Rome. He did a fantastic job of explaining the history and architecture. We spent all the time I wanted at the different sites. He took me to an excellent restaurant, even though it was Sunday and many were closed. Fantastic experience.

We set up our tour with Giuseppe a few months prior to visiting Rome. We planned a trip for our family immediately after Christmas (me, my wife, and 3 children ages: 10, 5, & 2), we also had another sibling of mine, and a sibling and their spouse tagging along. I was pleased with his communication, but thought his price was a little bit expensive. What I found out however is that many guides don’t necessarily have the same level of qualification as Giuseppe does. The price ended up being worth it, and the experiences will be remembered forever.
We were able to customize our itinerary in whatever way we pleased, as well as modify the pace on the fly to try and keep our children interested. We began exploring the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel. It was beautiful and we loved learning about the history of the church as well as it’s Renaissance impact, Ave seeing the incredible art housed inside the Vatican museum.
Following the Vatican tour we headed out to visit a traditional restaurant. Here our children were able to help make their own pizzas, including: rolling the dough, spreading the sauce, adding the toppings and cheese, and then putting it into the pizza oven…. And of course eating it! This made their trip and is something they will remember forever. The adults also all enjoyed their pizzas and pastas. Specifically I enjoyed trying a traditional deep fried artichoke. I highly recommend trying this.
Next, we went to the Colloseum. Giuseppe’s knowledge is vast and he answered all of our and our children’s questions with engaging and incredible detail. He’s a great story teller and helped you imagine how things would have been in ancient times.
We can’t recommend Giuseppe enough. He is extremely helpful and even offered to carry our two year old when he was tired. I even captured a picture of them holding hands in the Vatican (attached). If you’re coming to Italy, contact Giuseppe and use him as your guide. Thank you for the memories!
