A Brand New Exhibition In The Recently Opened Antiquarium
A great news for all Archaeology lovers: the famous Antiquarium of Herculaneum, after almost 44 years, has finally opened to the public to hosts the brand new exhibition “SplendORI, Luxury in the Ornaments of Herculaneum”. Running from the 20th of December 2018 until the 30th September 2019, this incredible collection includes more than 100 jewels and objects from the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum. A unique exhibition that will tell us hundreds of stories of all those who died during the tragic eruption of Mount Vesuvius back in 79 AD.
The leading motifs of the exhibition are indeed the wealth, the social and economic prestige and the beauty that characterized one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire: jewels, coins, gems, house decorations, everyday objects and tools, each of these findings gives us back a lively, passionate and happy image of how was life during those days. The greatest amount of findings has been surprisingly rediscovered along the ancient shore of the city itself where lot of people gathered and tried to escape during the fatal eruption of the volcano.
Thanks to the collaboration with the MANN and the Archaeological Site of Pompeii the visitors will have the chance to experience the vivid essence of ancient life in Herculaneum by appreciating these recent findings, but also by walking through the halls of the ancient houses and buildings and by joining the numerous activities and workshops that will enrich the exhibit in cooperation with the Institute “Francesco Degni” of Torre del Greco and the Centre of Gold Art & Tradition – Il Tarì.
An incredible exhibition, symbol of a history of ancient craftsmanship and manufacture, of protection and beauty that should not be missed.
