Have you ever heard about Spritz? Would you like to taste this amazing Italian long drink?
Well, if the answer is “yes” you cannot miss the event Rome 2018 Aperol Spritz Festival hosted by Roma.Eat, that will take place in the Italian city on Sunday 23 September 2018 at Palazzo Brancaccio. For one day the halls of this marvellous historical palace will be transformed in Aperol Spritz bars opened from 6pm to 2am: 5 stands in total, where famous Italian bartenders will prepare their best cocktails for a typical Italian aperitif. The entrance fee includes 2 APEROL SPRITZ but to have more fun people could join activities with the hostesses in order to win other drinks and a thousand of Spritz orange gadgets!
The event is even enriched with workshops in which several “Trainers” will guide the public in an interactive experience of real preparation of this world-famous Cocktail.
But have you ever wandered when the Spritz was invented?
This typical Italian cocktail was probably born in the area of Venice back in the XIX century. Although its origin is still cloudy, it is believed that the soldiers of the Austrian Empire, who were then quartered in Venice, used to pour fresh water in white wine to make the alcohol content lighter. At the beginning of 1900, soda water substituted fresh water and this particular mixture became a wide known and largely appreciated long drink called “Spritz”. Over the years, the drink had been enriched thanks to a variety of different combinations like Aperol and Campari liquors or China Martina and Cynar bitters.
The classic recipe of Spritz needs prosecco or champagne wine, a dash of some bitter liquor such as Aperol or, especially in Venice, Select. The glass is topped off with sparkling mineral water and it is served over ice in a lowball glass, garnished with a slice of orange or olive.
All you have to do now is to taste it!
